Julian Watson is Principal Analyst, IoT at Omdia and is based out of London, UK.
Julian Watson is responsible for the IoT Devices Market Tracker, which sizes IoT device shipments and installed base by region, market sector, application and connectivity type. His additional research areas include IoT gateways, IoT edge computing, 5G and telecoms operator IoT strategies. His recent topical research includes Edge in IoT, Cellular IoT gateways and IoT market outlook – China. In 2019 Julian contributed to custom research on the economic impact of 5G, the convergence of connectivity, AI, 5G, edge and cloud to enable “intelligent connectivity” and the market potential for cellular IoT gateways in public safety.
Before 2016 Julian managed IHS Markit’s telecoms operator research group. In this role he undertook research and analysis in the areas of telecoms operator capex and opex, service provider strategies and fixed broadband. Prior to this role Julian worked as an analyst in IHS Markit’s Economic and Country Risk (ECR) group, where he provided an assessment of the political, economic and security environment in the Former Soviet Union countries to an audience of financial, corporate and government clients.
Julian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics, Russian and parliamentary studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
