It is easy to think of distributed teams as slower, less efficient, and generally "worse" then having everyone working together in one location.
Having worked in, and led, distributed teams of various sizes in various companies, I've found distributed teams to be more efficient, able to hire better candidates, better retain employees and save costs. The trend in recent years is clear. The catch is that doing this well requires crisply organized management and coordination of how people work together, regardless of their location.
