IoT and predictive analytics are complementary and increasingly integrated in a solution. Both are complex subjects and may also appear overwhelming for some. There are indeed many moving parts with a noticeable amount of information to digest. The amount of time and effort needed to invest to become proficient with the two subjects can be significant. That however need not be the case. As this workshop takes a direct and accelerated approach to maximize the learning with a relatively small amount of time. That is to learn by analyzing, architecting and constructing an IoT solution with predictive analytics with a hands-on approach. Specifically, this workshop takes you through the process of constructing a solution from defining problems, developing concepts, composing an architecture, building components, integrating with Machine Learning, visualizing data, to packaging and publishing the solution.

Although the architecture model and the logical steps are vendor-agnostic and product-neutral, we will use Microsoft Azure as the cloud platform to actually construct a functional and realistic IoT solution with predictive analytics. One can personally get a free trial account from Microsoft web site and complete the labs with a personal laptop, while connected to the internet.
The workshop consists of four sets of one-hour presentations with technical demonstrations followed by 45-minute lab time. The following highlights some of the planned learning activities including:

  • Architect an IoT and a predictive analytics solution
  • Develop a Machine Learning model with self-improving capability
  • Securely and automatically acquire data in a hybrid cloud setting
  • Package, publish and consume a web service

Programming skills will be helpful, yet not required for completing this workshop. For some functional components, an attendee has an option to develop required code or apply provided sample to complete the labs. The main focus is to learn the process and available tools to develop and integrate data, a Machine Learning model, packaging and publishing the solution as a web service with a hybrid cloud setting, so they collectively work together to deliver an IoT solution with predictive analytics.
